https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_OCPHCgH-A

Seriously though not a day goes by that I am not so thankful for the outcome of our journey... Our amazing friends, family, tribe.... The amazing teams we work with at Cleveland Clinic Children's.... The ability of LIVE organ donation and that Cleveland Clinic allows this procedure...

Our chocolate eyed loveable linebacker little guy is here because of the gift of life and my little sliver of liver.

Proud to share our story with you again and encourage others on their journey to keep fighting and always believe.

Humbly yours

Team Emma Strong - Post Transplant

So many of you have followed up with me to see how our sweet little Valentine's Day HEART RECIPIENT is I am glad to tell you that Baby Emma is just LOVING on her new little heart!

Her new mama even shared that she gave her a smile as she was giving her a pep talk about her new heart - if that doesn't make you turn into a little puddle on the floor I don't know what will...

If there is any group that I think has the GOOD VIBES down pat for LIVER LOVE it is US! Can you please send Team Emma Strong some LIVER LOVE from Brodie's Good Vibe Tribe - her heart is doing what it is supposed to but like many transplants other organs get compromised or complications happen. And in her case her liver needs to do what it knows how to do - HEAL, REGENERATE, GROW and THRIVE.

Go Emma Go!

We are all rooting for you!

Emma did well coming off the paralysis yesterday evening & through the night. She's more of herself again and gave me a big smile when I told her yesterday that she had a new, healthy heart ❤️...one of my favorite moments with her to-date.
Today, she was in more pain, which was awful to see, but we'll definitely be weaning the extremely high doses of pain meds & sedation slowly, as she has been on them for essentially her entire life and has become very used to them. Her liver is very sick after the long surgery, but doctors seem positive about it recovering so we remain positive and have been reinforcing to Emma what 'normal' liver enzymes should be in hopes that she can help pep-talk her liver :) We have a long road of recovery ahead, but we are so very greatful for a fantastic medical team and the continued prayers and positive vibes from our incredible support system. #EmmaStrong#believeinmiracles #donatelife

TEAM Emma Strong - She gets her call!

Please pray and pray hard for Baby Emma.. Remember a couple months ago I shared with you #EMMASTRONG - this little baby has been fighting every day of her life - 3 months old and has spent every day Cleveland Clinic Children's waiting for someone to make the choice of gifting life.

HER DAY IS HERE - Little Baby Emma is getting a NEW HEART!

Her Mom shared just a little bit ago that she was praying that Valentine's Day was it - that love, hearts and sweet treats were the perfect combination for the possibility of a call... THEY GOT THE CALL JUST AFTER SHE POSTED THAT!

GOOD VIBES! LIFT this family up in PRAYER! LIFT the family who lost a child up in prayer! So many feelings for everyone involved.

Baby Emma will get a second chance at life and will get to see life outside of the hospital.

GO EMMA GO.

We will be cheering and rooting for you every step of the way.

Miracles really do come true. EMMA'S MIRACLE HEART IS ON ITS WAY. There could be no better Valentine's Day gift! We don't know much yet in terms of next steps, the heart was the first organ assigned, so now the other organs need to be assigned & then plans can be made. All we know is that God is so good & we are in need of many many STRONG PRAYERS & positive vibes tonight & all day tomorrow. PRAY PRAY PRAY! I will update when we know more, but for now it's time for Emma to get a nice, relaxing sponge bath & for this excited momma to attempt to get some rest...BIG DAY AHEAD! #EmmaStrong #teamEmma #Valentinesheart #believeinmiracles

The Borrowed Heart - CNN

People have asked what kind of expenses are associated with transplant - there are so many, sooo many...

Thankfully there are a lot of programs that you may be able to take advantage of to help provide you with assistance, support to allow the financial burden lessen - however most of the time with medications, procedures, expenses, visits, parking, etc. you will always have reoccurring costs weekly, monthly or yearly.

In this situation with Juniper's transplant - she is on medicine that is compounded (in liquid format) and would be an expense of $7,000 out of pocked after it is ran through insurance. This family is located in Colorado and qualified for medicaid - it is covered. That is not the case for all families.

Know that when you support BGVT you are helping someone make any of the payments listed above.

With the changes potentially being executed with the ACA there are going to be a lot of programs that help support and allow families like the The Borrowed HeartBrodie's Good Vibe Tribe, etc. that will have impact on their medical, insurance, situation - things like - pre-existing conditions, insurance caps, programs, etc.

Those things could potentially have an extreme impact on us - please watch, be aware, educate yourselves on changes and policies - who knows how things will end as this is the only beginning and we must believe, voice and follow through to see the change and receive the support we need.

Tune in tonite CNN 9PM - NOW!

This guy right here (Juniper's dad) is currently on a plane to Washington DC courtesy of CNN to participate in the town hall debate tonight between Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz regarding the future of healthcare in our country. He's been asked to briefly share our story and to ask a question concerning the cost of prescription medications not covered by insurance. Tune into CNN tonight! 9EST, 7MST for our Colorado friends.

Update: 02/03/2017 - Update on Brodie's Procedure

This guy nailed it. He is sleeping in my arms as I type. Thank you for all of your prayers, good vibes and love - I am so happy to tell you that and some major skill at Cleveland Clinic Children's helped us get the best case scenario!!!!! The master of interventional radiology - Dr. Mark Sands was able to perform angioplasty to clear out the build up and extend the current stents. That means no new "hardware", no lovenox (💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻) and a happy little boy. We are so sooo sooooooo happy! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We will be here overnight for observation and hopefully out tomorrow. More updates to come.... #brodieissotough#tiguetough #BGVT #give2live #DOnateLIFE #bethegood #dolife#thegoodstuff

Update: 02/02/2017 - Revenge of the Clot Part II

UPDATE: REVENGE OF THE CLOT–PART II - It is with heavy fingers clickity clackiting on the keyboard that I get to give you our update – as you all know we have been cruising in a safe zone, labs have been spectacular, liver functionality off the chart (well this is not clinical but if there was an amazing liver score I think we would have one – HA!), Brodie is thriving, crushing milestones left and right – as well as anything in his way for that matter.

Yesterday, we were hosting friends in from out of town and I didn’t have my phone on me so when I went to go check it I had about 20 new emails, 8 texts and 5 voicemails. One being from our Liver Transplant Team - one of our favorite nurses Jim – who asked me to call him back immediately.

Casually I called back thinking we would have to edit the dosage of the PROGRAF (Tacrolimus) that we administer twice a day for anti-rejection. (change in dosage is normal it is based on a lot of different variables and you need to keep it at the level requested by your team so sometimes we have to give more or less and it changes based on the level shown in labs)…

I was completely caught off guard as Jim carefully started explaining to me that on our last Ultrasound is showing a change in the Portal Vein going into Brodie’s liver the area where the clot was discovered last March and it is thickening (remember we went through a 9 hour surgery in April to get 3 stents placed to widen this last year) – I sat there dumbfounded.

Hot, confused, totally taken off guard, mind spinning, tear flood gates open, I am sure I was sweating and the words came out of my mouth, “Jim I hear what you saying but I didn’t process anything can you repeat.”

This time I ferociously wrote down everything he was saying and had to push emotion to the side (even though tears were streaming down my cheeks) to comprehend what was going on.

Then I think I repeated it back 2 – 3 times to make sure I was clear – poor Jim. He showed the upmost patience – he repeated as I clarified…

Long story short – the passage in the Portal Vein to the Liver the “walls” are thickening – imagine a large fire hose connected to garden hose and all of the water coming through the fire hose spout to the smaller mouth of the garden hose – no good.

How do we fix it? We will have to have Interventional Radiology procedure with the amazing Dr. Sands to see what we can do to treat this.

We won’t know what the solution is until we get in there – we possibly might be able to do angioplasty or place another stent. This procedure will most likely take 2 – 3 hours depending on how things go once they get in there.

Tomorrow we check in bright and early at 6:30AM at Cleveland Clinic Children's on Main Campus for our little warrior once again to put this clot in its place.

Today we went to our home away from home to visit OUR FAVORITE VEIN WHISPERER – the gentle giant Big John – you guys. He is THE BEST. THE BEST.

We got labs drawn today to prepare tomorrow – Brodie basically struts around like he owns the joint – HA. He even put the arm down on the chair you sit in to get blood drawn.

John as usual is a total pro and the whole time Brodie (who I am bear hugging) is uncomfortable because he knows what is coming but John talks to him very calm – showing him the tube colors – talking him through. Sometimes I think about how happy I am about our draws and that Brodie can make it through screaming and thrashing being pinned down by me and then after the needle is out he is high fiving John and saying thank-you. And then I am overwhelmed by I cannot believe this is my normal and get sad and then think to myself there are for more worse things than blood draws – like a yo-yo mama mindset.

If any of you have seen me lately I have probably told you that literally Brodie is Bam-Bam from The Flintstones he is a Brute – just today my dad told me he is like Godzilla destroying everything in his way – but at the same time he is so gentle and loving and with his melted chocolate brown eyes he turns anger to sloppy kisses in a minute.

So my motto going into tomorrow is “Love me, and I will move mountains to make you happy. Hurt me, and I’ll drop those mountains on your head.”

Soo…..

Dear Blood Clot, once again you have chosen the wrong warrior, the wrong frontline physician army we are coming for you. Be afraid. Be Very Afraid.

Please send us good vibes for a successful, swift procedure – my Mama soul cannot handle all of this – remember we just had his adenoids out two weeks ago?? Now this. I cannot.

So if you see a hot mess of a mama chugging coffee, sporting BGVT gear, pacing the halls – say Hi – I will need the smile break.

Go Warrior Go.

Once again, you can do it – you always do.

XO - TT

Update: 01/24/2017 - A day of appointments

The key to getting through long day of appointments - snacks, phone and funny faces.

Yesterday we had our scheduled check ups for 3 appointments Cleveland Clinic Children's

Labs with the exceptional vein whisperer - Big John making sure all levels are where they need to be, Ultrasound with one of our favorites keeping and eye on the three stents, spleen and flows of all the "plumbing" and a quick check in with the incredible GI expert Dr. Radahkrishnan.

This little 20 month old literally amazes me every time he sails through these days - happy, a flirt and recovers from the traumatizing sticks, draws, pokes, prods, wands that generate huge cries and crocodile tears and within 30 seconds he is being ornery and getting people to laugh.

Once again I find myself so thankful for modern medicine, technology, the brilliant minds at theCleveland Clinic, the ability for us to use our organs to pay it forward for life to continue.

Everyone we saw kept commenting about how big Brodie is getting, how he is losing some of the baby, how he actually has hair - HA!!!!

My heart sinks for those who wont be able to do the same - see their babies grow or their parents enjoy life with them.

118,782 people in the United States on#thewaitinglist according to United Network for Organ Sharing wondering if they too will be on the other side one day.

Support Organ Donation. Support Life.

So grateful for the power of a #sliverofliver and my little trail blazing warrior.
